Monday 30th March: The Three Cities.

Today we visit the three cities which were occupied before Valletta and where we were yesterday.

The Three Cities (Maltese: It-Tlett Ibliet) is a collective description of the three fortified cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua in Malta. The oldest of the Three Cities is Vittoriosa, which has existed since prior to the Middle Ages. The other two cities, Senglea and Cospicua, were both founded by the Order of Saint John in the 16th and 17th centuries.

I have circled the area we concentrated on as the other areas were badly damaged in the second world war and most of the old buildings have gone.

Our walk was through the fortress gates and into the area where the first Knights of Saint John lived.
There were three sets of gates to get into the old city.

The old area seems to be maintained extremely well.
